The Gospel: The Greatest News You'll Ever Hear
"For God sent not His Son into the world to condemn the world, but that the world through Him might be saved." John 3:17
The word Gospel simply means "Good News."
It is the wonderful message that God loves you and has made a way for you to be forgiven, restored to Him, and receive eternal life through His Son, Jesus Christ.
The Gospel is not about what we can do to earn God's favour. It is about what God has already done for us through Jesus Christ.
The Bible teaches that every one of us has sinned by disobeying God's perfect standards.
Sin separates us from a holy God, and no amount of good works or religious effort can remove that separation.
"For all have sinned, and come short of the glory of God." Romans 3:23
Because of our sin, we cannot earn our way to heaven.
"Not by works of righteousness which we have done, but according to His mercy He saved us." Titus 3:5
Although we were separated from God by our sin, His love for us never changed.
God sent His only Son, Jesus Christ, into the world to rescue us.
Jesus willingly gave His life on the cross, taking upon Himself the punishment that we deserved so that we could be forgiven and reconciled to God.
"For God so loved the world, that He gave His only begotten Son, that whosoever believes in Him should not perish, but have everlasting life." John 3:16
Jesus Christ lived a perfect, sinless life.
Because He was without sin, His sacrifice was acceptable to God as the complete payment for our sins.
Three days after His death, Jesus rose from the dead in victory over sin and death. Hundreds of eyewitnesses saw Him alive before He returned to heaven.
His resurrection is the assurance that His promise of eternal life is true.
The Bible tells us that sin brings death, but God offers eternal life as a free gift through Jesus Christ.
Salvation cannot be earned—it is received by faith.
"For the wages of sin is death; but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord."
Romans 6:23
"For it is by grace you have been saved, through faith—and this is not from yourselves, it is the gift of God— 9 not by works, so that no one can boast."
Ephesians 2:8-9
God invites every person to respond to the Gospel by:
Recognizing their need for forgiveness.
Turning to God in repentance.
Trusting Jesus Christ as Lord and Saviour.
Receiving His free gift of eternal life.
When we place our faith in Jesus Christ, God forgives our sins, gives us new life, and welcomes us into His family.
